Here you take the role of that show’s main cast as they traverse diverse levels, either to defeat their enemies, solve puzzles or complete routine platforming challenges. Hey look, ANOTHER… oh… wow! This isn’t an RTS at all but a 2D action/platformer based on Deep Space Nine (funny how some of the best games in the franchise come from one of the most divisive TV series it has to offer). 7 – Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Crossroads of Time Oh sure it might be a bit dated to play today, especially when compared to it’s contempory RTS companions Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and StarCraft, but serious Trekkies owe it to themselves to check this one out. Hey look, ANOTHER real-time strategy game! The Starfleet Command series is regarded as some of the most ‘complete’ games in the Star Trek universe thanks to their great graphics, solid gameplay and (still kicking) mod community.
8 – Star Trek: Starfleet Command II: Empires at War
While praised upon it’s release, repeated playthroughs suffer from the same issues as The Dominion Wars – that the single player campaign was as dull as a Vulcan comedy club. Hey look, another real-time strategy game! Star Trek: Armada (released just a year before The Dominion Wars) actually takes place just after that bloody conflict and sees the crew Enterprise-E attempting to rebuild the United Federation of Planets and it’s alliances. Sure the gameplay got a bit same-y after a while but hardcore Trek fans, being used to repetitive story lines, didn’t seem to mind. This galaxy-wide conflict dominated the Trek-universe for years and 2001 it was made into a pretty decent fleet command and real-time strategy game. That being said there are a few exceptions to this rule (of acquisition) though not all of these shine as bright as latinum but they are the best that the 23rd and 24th centuries have to offer.ġ0 – Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Dominion Warsĭeep Space Nine was the first Star Trek series to feature a large overarching plot-device in the way of the Dominion War.
Sort of like how Kirk and the Klingons are both constantly at odds, the universe that brought us some of the most imaginative sci-fi ever has somehow rarely been able to successfully translate that to interactive media. To say that Star Trek and video games have had a rough relationship would be an understatement.
